Coming together

West High is very proud of its many cultural clubs on campus. Before Thanksgiving Break, most of the clubs came together and provided a dinner for the community with foods from different areas of the world. Alongside the food, some of the clubs prepared dances, songs and a poem to perform for the guests at the International Feast.West High’s Middle-Eastern Association, Eastern-Asian Association, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), Black Student Union (BSU), Asian Pacific Islanders and Spanish Club all participated in the event.

Junior Austyn Murphy, president of BSU, explained how all the cultures come together to give a diverse dinner open to everyone. All the profits from the tickets sold are being given to the Tiny Hands Foundation, assisting children in poverty-stricken homes by providing all the ingredients necessary for a proper holiday meal.

Freshman Paola Duran participated in the event as a dancer in MEChA Club as they did the traditional folklorico dance.” I really enjoyed the food and trying all the different foods [from each club],” said Duran. The event was well turned out with many club members proudly displaying their culture’s food and exploring others.
