It has been known over the years that California has been getting more expensive as time has passed. California is immensely popular in the United States because it has been in many movies and many celebrities live here. California is the most populated state in the United States with 39,185,605 residents according to the https://worldpopulationreview.com/states/california-population. The inflated cost of living in California is 41% higher than the national average. Housing is 96% higher than the national average, while utilities are 27% higher according to https://www.rentcafe.com/cost-of-living-calculator/us/ca/.

It has come to question, why are so many residents of California leaving to move to other states? I interviewed an old friend of mine who is moving to Texas in a week about the reason her family is moving to Texas. She explained that “her family found a cheaper house in Texas to buy with more rooms and space. She also said, “California is too expensive to live in and that rent is too much just to live in a house or apartment for little rooms.” I thanked her for her interview and time to give me an explanation of why she is leaving California.

So, many people want to move due to California being too expensive for things like housing and gas prices. But why is California so expensive in general is another question that has come to question a lot. According to https://budgettravelbuff.com/why-is-california-so-expensive-to-live-in/. California is expensive to live in because it has a low supply and high demand are not equal. There are so many people that are living in California that it is become overpopulated limiting land. Most of California’s land is unusable or unsuitable for development to live in.

California is also a major center for technology, finance, and entertainment. Due to many big company businesses headquarters that are like Twitter, YouTube, Apple, Google, and many more. And as a result, there is high demand for housing from residents and big businesses. Another question that comes up a lot is “why is the tax rate so high in California?” According to https://mostexpensively.com/why-is-california-so-expensive/. California has high tax sale rates that are 7.25% and the average effective property tax rate is 0.73%. It is also aware that California has the highest gas taxes, up to 53.9 cents per gallon, which adds up. Even though taxes are extremely high in California, they help things like education and infrastructure in the state.

Overall, California is an expensive state to live in due to high housing costs and gas prices. Many people may not recommend moving to California because of it being expensive, earthquakes, water droughts, and the wildfires that tend to happen. But I recommend moving to California because it is a beautiful state and has plenty of diversity. California almost has the most beautiful weather climates, food choices, and excellent job opportunities. You should not judge a book by its cover and listen to the bad things people say about California unless you experience it yourself because you may never know. You might like it, enjoy it, or love it.
