Today I am writing a movie review for “Sound of Freedom” It was directed by Alejandro Gomez Monteverde. The movie is about character Tim Ballard (played by Jim Caviezel) who saves character Rocio (played by Cristal Aparicio) from being kept as a sex slave at Scorpion’s camp and being sold to other “clients”. Rocio’s little brother Miguel (played by Lucas Avila) was separated from his sister and sold to older women and men.
Tim Ballard is a character in the movie. However, he is an actual person who the movie is based off. Tim is a part of Homeland Security the part of government that helps to (aside from other things) find missing kids and shut down sex trafficking operations not only in the U.S., but also in other countries. This movie is based on a true story and has a very heavy topic. So, the question is, should teens see this movie? Should this movie be PG13, or should it be rated R based on its content?
In my opinion, I believe everyone who can, should watch this movie. I say this because as hard as a topic as this is, it’s also incredibly important. As a younger teen, I was considering not watching it. However, I knew there was something important about this movie that had to be seen. So, I went to see it, and I do not regret it. Being a teenager, I am naïve and young, and I have blinders on so to speak. Blinders that keep me from seeing true evil in this world. And yes, I do believe that we as teenagers should be shielded from certain things but, finding that balance of being less naïve and a bit more aware of what happens in this world is incredibly important.
Even most adults I know have a problem with keeping that balance of happiness and heaviness. The hard truth is, sometimes it’s a bit hard to find happiness in the heaviness. But Sound of Freedom shows that little bit of hope needed to keep light in the dark. And if you ever get some free time, I suggest you go watch “Sound of Freedom.” I give this movie a five out of five paws. And if you take any one thing from this article let it be a quote by Jim Caviezel “God’s children are not for sale.”
