I had the pleasure of talking to two players (Freshmen) Kennedy Henderson and (Senior)Melissa Jackson plus the Coach Jessica Anastasio and asked them a few questions about the Girls tennis team. When being asked why girls should play tennis. Henderson says that she has a “wonderful team that is willing to help others whether you have experience or don’t have experience plus it keeps you fit.” Jackson says that this sport is a “good way to branch out socially” and make new friends on the team. They have the goal of trying to make as many wins as they can, getting better at tennis, while also making sure to have a fun time doing it.
Tennis is not a hard sport to learn, Jackson and Henderson say that it just takes a lot of patience and perseverance to get the hang of the sport. Coach Anastasio tells us how she used to be a volunteer cheer coach for the West High Cheer team and that coaching varsity tennis will be a new but fun experience for her.
I asked the players if they were ready for their upcoming game, and Melissa said that no matter what she “tried her best and we all did good”. The girls’ tennis team had a very welcoming environment full of friendly people with good sportsmanship. So, if you are interested in Girls’ tennis, come check it out!
