On September 9 star football player Matthew Jacklich #10 got our winning
touchdown! With the final score being 13 – 7. I asked him a few questions after the game. Then asked, “What do you look forward to this season?” Matthew Jacklich replied with, “Playing with the guys, it’s our last year. Winning some games because it’s going on for that. And right now, we’re changing that. We’re changing the perspective a lot of people have on this school” Changing the reputation of this school is exactly what they are doing. As of the time this article was written, our football team has three wins out of four games.
I interviewed a few more of the star players. Here is what #5 Christian Chacon has to say about how he gets mentally prepared of a game. “To be honest, I just stay quiet, stay by myself, and I lock in. Like just concentrate, focus on what I must do on the football field and how I can get better as a player, and just help everyone else. His actions absolutely back up his words.
Their coach, Coach B was also interviewed that night, here is how that went. I asked Coach B “Just so we can fully comprehend and appreciate how hard you guys’ work. How many times a week do you guys’ practice?” Coach B answered with “Oh! We practice every day. Every single day” followed up by “one hour in study hall, because grades first, these are student athletes. Then we are in the weight room, so they get some work in, and then we’re two hours on the field. So about four hours a day of pure football.” “How do you feel about #10 getting the winning touchdown?” He said “That’s my boy! Matthew Jacklich! Yeah, he ran hard today.” “He played a great game. He was calling for the ball on the sidelines, so we had to give it to him.” ‘He was like “coach I can get it in there, give it to me’ I’m like alright Mathew we gon give you it. I don’t want to get a playout, but it was a 31 pitch, so that’s what we did, and he got up there for real.” The opposing side came with all they could, and they put up a great fight. Best of luck to them next time.
