Parking in the morning is something that many students and all staff must go through. Entering the parking lot is very stressful, knowing that there is only one entrance for the student parking lot, you really must plan ahead. The line to just get in takes longer than most students commute to school. The line has been seen reaching Corral Hollow Rd. Once entering the parking lot, you can only park in certain areas, since part of it is for the district and the other is strictly for staff.
It is the same situation when leaving school in the afternoon, many parents enter the parking lot to pick up their children, which only causes the parking lot to be even more packed. Some say a simple solution is only allowing student drivers to enter the parking lot during school hours. Many students’ resort to parking across the street to avoid all the traffic, but it may also be due to not having a parking pass.
Students throughout the years have heard that if they do not have a parking pass, they are not permitted to park on campus. Consequences starting from fines to towing of a vehicle. Many students are willing to risk getting a ticket versus having to go through the stress of parking on campus.
Many kids also ask themselves if they can park in the staff parking lot, but soon realize they are not allowed to; it is a question many ask, since it seems very harmless. There are signs at the entrance saying it is strictly for staff only, but many have the desire to be a couple of extra hundred feet closer to the entrance.
Lack of parking space is not the issue; it is the way many students park. Let’s be honest, if you and your friends can drive to school, all of you want to park next to each other. Along with that, many say it is stressful when parking because everyone parks in a random spot most of the time, making the beautiful mornings a not so beautiful one.
When speaking to junior Santy Magallanes about the frustration of student parking, he said, “Yes, and we should be able to choose.” He drives his 2008 Mazda Speed to school daily, Furthermore, when asked why, he responded, “We won`t have the trouble of stressing where to park.” Many students would agree with this statement and of course many wouldn`t. But that’s just the effect and frustration of student parking.
Custom parking spots can be implanted as fundraiser for the school. Along with raising money for the school, it will help solve the parking issue that we have.
