For most athletes this is most exciting time of the year winter sports are coming to a start and new teammates and opportunities. For many, it is a time where they have something else to focus on, other than school. Many play sports to hopefully one day become a professional and have a career. Winter is one of the busiest season with sports consisting of Boys and Girls Soccer, Basketball, and Wrestling.
When speaking with Girls Soccer Varsity player junior Jessica Medina, she says, “I think we will do good and have strong areas on the field that will help us out.” Which really brings in the high expectations these players have for themselves after a good season last year finishing 5th in the league. “Well, the biggest change we had is we lost 14 seniors and now we have many new players to fulfill their spots.” As we know, many seniors graduate through the years and teams must adapt. But one thing that isn’t lost is the memories. As Jessica says, “She looks forward to the bus rides and all practices but mainly the bus rides.”
Boys Basketball, arguably one of the best sports on campus has a lot to look forward to, I talked with junior Joseph Florez, he says “I am looking forward to our upcoming season as we are better faster and stronger this year, we are developed under our new coaches better than ever before , last year we did not get a summer or fall with them because of the time of their arrival.” As we known when you have connections you are set for life, and the basketball them has these as Florez said, “These are true official coaches with D1 connections and have won four consecutive state championships at the D1 college level and this year we had a full summer and fall with both coaches , to work hard and get better, we are a better defensive team and overall strong scoring team this year than before , as regards to last years season I have nothing to say because we can only focus on the present and what is next.”
Another sport with amazing results, Wrestling, in many people’s eyes a very mind written sport, as Junior Girls Wrestler Gurneet Sanghera describes it. Along with this she believes that “This season will go great, we have good coaches, and a good team.”
