The West Valley Mall is located on Naglee Road. Once an amazing spot to go out and get some shopping done or just go out with your friends. There were numerous stores that people enjoyed going to that caused the mall to be packed. It would feel just as full as malls in the Bay Area or Sacramento. What was once an amazing mall for the residents of Tracy and nearby towns has quickly lost interest from the public.
With major stores shutting down and online shopping taking its place, the mall has lost people’s interest as some stores were the reason people enjoyed the mall. When speaking to local resident, Maria Leanos who has lived in Tracy since 2010, she states, “I use to love to go to the mall with my kids and be able to go to where we could go to as a family on the weekends. However, as time went it seemed like people stopped caring about this mall.”
This was a fun place, especially during the Christmas Season, with a big tree upfront and on the inside. It all started back in 2020, when people were not able to leave their home and stores had to shut down as they could not afford to stay open. However, once the lockdown ended and people were able to go out, no one wanted to.
Prompting these stores to stay closed. To add on to the small number of stores open, the mall’s condition itself is just not the best. It is very rundown with no improvements made over the twenty-nine years it has opened. Some floor tiles are cracked or broken completely, the Children play areas are missing some of the structure, and the sliding doors don’t even work anymore.
How are people going to enjoy something that has no care put into it? People want to enjoy this mall and improving it will benefit the public as they don’t need to travel far to go to a mall anymore and benefit those who run it. There are many simple solutions to get this mall back to the glory it was once in. For starters, fixing the simple issues like the sliding doors, the floor, and fresh coat of paint. All these minor renovations will make the mall feel new like it used to be. Most importantly, add stores that people care about. Adding small stores that most people don’t have interest in won’t bring in that many people. Big name stores are the key to bringing in vast amounts of people. The people of Tracy have not had a decent mall in Tracy for around four years, its time something is done to bring this mall back to its former glory.
