February is the month of love and positivity, especially the 14th. Valentines is an annual day to celebrate romantic love, friendship, and appreciation. It’s celebrated on February 14 and it’s a date where you set aside to allow the people you love know you love them. It’s a day where you give instead of receiving. Some people struggle on deciding what to get their loved ones for this day to make their loved ones feel special.
The most common gift people give to one another in Valentines is chocolate or some kinds of sweets. Pastel hearts are which have phrases such as “Be mine” and “XOXO” took the spot in seventeen states for most popular candy in Valentines. But chocolate also takes the spot as many seem to use that as their sweet to gift other people. Red boxes of chocolates, heart shaped cakes, and other edible gifts are among the most popular Valentine’s Day gifts, according to a survey by the National Retail Federation. Some ideas if you’d want your gift to be non-sweets you can gift your loved one’s acrylic plaques, cards, couple apparel, mugs and tumblers, pet items, candles, custom hit boxes, couple canvases or posters, tech accessories, and personalized teddy bears.
West High students who belong to a club have made giving present to your loved ones easier than ever before Many clubs on our campus have been planning on selling small charms, gifts, etc. on Valentines for anyone to be able to buy them and have them be sent to the people of their choosing. A club being API who have made creative activities and charms to give to your friends or who ever you may love on Valentines. They’re celebrating Valentines by spreading the love and selling grams during lunch in the quad only on Valentines. The options range from letters, paper flowers, or even a song! Letters cost one dollar, paper flowers cost two dollars, and serenade/song costs five dollars Some songs you may choose are all of me by John Legend and Golden Hour by JVKE. It’s an inexpensive, creative, and cute option to make you’re loved ones feel special! Loys or other clubs will be selling grams and such on the day of Valentines in the quad so be sure to be on the lookout.
Typically, people’s budgets don’t have to be the biggest to make someone feel special and loved on Valentines. According to the National Retail Federation, most people will gift candy and greeting cards to their loved ones which in retrospect isn’t that costly. The biggest expenses are jewelry and activities. Jewelry is the embodiment of romance and is an option you can never go wrong with for Valentines. Some places you can shop for jewelry for your loved ones are Zales, Pandora, and Swarovski. Depending on your budget you can shop for jewelry in more luxury brands or in other lower budgeted places. It’s always the thought that counts! And as for activities, there’s a lot you can do on this special day. Some ideas are taking your partner out to a nice dinner, going painting, going ice skating, or watching a movie together. Memories made with your loved ones are always unforgettable and can be super fun!
Valentine’s Day includes both women and men as any gender can gift things to ones another. Down below I received opinions from both genders on what you could gift your partner for Valentines. Junior Sawyer Lemos says, “I believe that Valentines is a special day and should be spent taking your partner somewhere special like a fancy dinner and making fun memories with them. For presents to give to your partner some easy go to’s are always chocolate, stuffed animals, and a nice card of some sort.” Senior Alyssa Fung adds on, “I think anything sentimental makes a great gift. Gifts with meaning and thought behind them are the ones I treasure the most.” Senior Charlotte Gavero adds on that, “Handmade stuff is cutesies just because I mean we’re high schoolers we’re on a budget and anything handmade means effort and that what makes me happy.”
Overall, if you put in effort and love into the gift, you give your loved one, it’ll be worth a lot! The thought truly counts and doing your own best to make someone feel loved and appreciated will always be kind of one to do. Letters, small gestures, etc. can be just as meaningful as an expensive materialistic object. Remember to spread your love to the most important people in your life and show them appreciation when the fourteenth of Valentines comes!
