With the end of the school year approaching, more senior activities start to rise. One of them is “Senior Assassin”. Senior Assassin, also known as senior tag, is when a group consisting of only seniors in high school get together and form a team and any group that wants to participate pays a onetime fee that the winning group will win and use for their liking. In order to get someone out, players shoot other players with water guns while documenting this elimination on their phone as evidence. Each school has different rules, but for West High specifically, only water guns are allowed to get a person out as well as the rule of only being allowed to get someone out outside of school and outside of school events.
When asked if Senior Assassin is worth being a part of, Senior Charlotte Gavero, part of the team “Soak City” stated “I do think it’s worth it. I’ve been able to make more friends due to it and just have a lot of fun with it. It’s something that makes senior year even more fun than it already has been.” Senior Serena Maldonaldo part of another team also spoke highly of this activity as she said, “It’s a memorable game as it’s very exciting to see the lengths some students are willing to go for the cash prize and the fame you get when getting someone out.”
However, some staff are getting concerned that this activity is growing dangerous. This activity is being considered a threat as the water guns used to “eliminate” people can easily be mistaken for a real firearm making this a risk and fear factor. To prevent this, students that bring these water guns to school or any school activity will be met with disciplinary action and are put at risk suspension. Another factor that is being used to decide if Senior Assassin should continue is the fact that some students are going as far as leaking other students’ addresses, making this a hazard as valuable information is being exposed.
With this information, we think of the question should Senior Assassin be Assassinated?
