The day of senior graduation is a happy and cheerful one. As Seniors walk across the stage, they say goodbye to their high school lives and go into adulthood as their family and friends cheer them on. However, there was a new decision made, this year’s graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 30 during the school week; instead of a weekend celebration.
I asked a senior that chose to stay anonymous, their opinion on a Thursday Graduation, “I feel it is very inconvenient. If graduation was on a Saturday, it would feel more memorable than a it being held during finals week, like it adds more pressure.”
This graduation date could not only be an inconvenience to the Graduating class, but also the families coming to support them. Most adults work weekday jobs where it is harder to request work off- for family events depending on the job. Some find it easier to request off work on the weekends where it can tend to be less crowded, again, depending on the job.
However, there are some seniors that find the good in a Thursday Graduation. Another Senior who chose to remain anonymous had informed me that they were happy to graduate on a Thursday. After their special day, they were not required to return back to school the next day on Friday but could instead start their amazing summer vacation early.
So, what’s your opinion? Do you think Thursday graduations would be a better day? Or would you stick to the traditional Saturdays?
