Have you ever wondered why you can’t just go to the basketball courts if you have nowhere else to go? Well, I have an answer to this question, the school has been stricter to this as said from Mr. Henderson the principal of Merrill F. West High School. “They were closed last year for safety purposes and students asked if they could be opened.” As well as this, Mr. Henderson said, “The admin team is happy with the way it has gone we are very much open to extending it to daily use as long as it continues to go well”.

The basketball courts are only open two out of the five days since it is a better way for the school to regulate the people going in there. One of the reasonings why they closed it is people will continuously be doing things they aren’t supposed to be doing. For example, people fighting in the corner or behind. People sneaking out.

To a fellow student, I asked would you like for them to be opened all week instead of 2 out of the 5 days of the week? Also do you intend to play a sport or is it just a place where you can relax”. So, I asked sophomore Erick Garcia and they said, “I would always go there and relax and hangout with my friends and when I wanted to I could play basketball when I want”.
