Our history begins in 1993 after finishing construction. The school was named after Merrill F. West, a native of Laurel, Iowa. He moved to Tracy in 1936 to simply farm produce crops and walnuts. He then served as a TUSD board member for eleven years, four of those years as president.
The colors of classic Navy Blue and Vegas Gold color scheme and even the mascot, were voted by the first-year students, creating the Wolf Pack. Later, a team of students, teachers, administrators, and coaches worked with B1self to create the Wolf Pack logo.
The B1self is a company specializing in school branding and logos. Unfortunately, the school previously had to deal with a copyright dispute with the University of Nevada Reno about the Wolf Pack logo when a copyrighted use of Reno’s logo was used.
In 2011, representatives of University of Nevada, Reno, had objected to the school’s use of their Wolf Pack logo. Creating our own logo cost the school $5,500.
Also, there were a few famous people who went to the school. Those people include: Saweetie, an American rapper/songwriter; and Amini Silatolu, who was part of class of 2007. He currently plays for an NFL team, the Carolina Panthers.
In 2003, the school achieved a recognition of being named a California Distinguished School, then again in in 2021, making the school being one of the three schools in San Joaquin County to receive this award. History is yet to be written with the good things our students will accomplish.
