When thinking about the rivalry between both schools, you always wonder why or what started this rivalry. For several years, Tracy High School and Merrill F. West High School have sparked a lot of discussion with their rivalry.

Their rivalry mainly centers around their competition in football and other sports. The Tracy vs. West football game recently took place on August 23, 2024.

The game was played at West High. Tracy High’s JV team won with a score of 44 to 9, and the Tracy High Varsity team also secured a victory with a score of 47 to 6.

Some people mentioned that both schools feel more pressure because they’re from the same community, which might have caused some tension between them. Putting the rivalry aside, both schools still have respect and care for each other without any animosity.

I talked to Freshman Maxwell Moore from Tracy high and asked, “Why do you think Tracy and West High have the biggest rivalry?” He answered, “I think Tracy and west have a bigger rivalry because they are more of generational schools unlike Kimball.”

Then I talked to Freshman Jonathan Mata and asked do you think the rivalry is still the same from the past or different? He answered, “The same, because both schools equally hate each other”.

The rivalry between Tracy high school and West High school brings the community together for a fiercely competitive event, particularly during football games.

At the end of the day, students gather to watch the outcome of a football game as a way of uniting and enjoying the experience together.
