On November 8th, 2024, Tracy witnessed the opening of a new Nashville chicken place known as Angry Chickz. Previously, Tracy only had a limited number of chicken restaurants such as Wingstop and Drippin Chicken. The new arrival of Angry Chickz triggered a frenzy within the community, as many people skipped school and work to attend the opening at 11am. The food place was crowded for weeks after and benefited from long lines of customers every day. I tried Angry Chickz to determine if the hype is overrated or earned. How good is Angry Chickz?
I ordered their most popular menu item, the Angry Mac with mild heat. It consists of their famous Nashville chicken placed over creamy mac and cheese, crispy French fries, and doused in their signature sauce. The first bite of my food was satisfactory, as the crispiness of both the chicken and fries complement the softness of the mac and cheese. I was not surprised that this food option was Angry Chickz’s most famous item, as it was tasty and filling. However, the sauce was difficult to taste because it was overpowered by the flavors of the other components. I would rate it an eight out of ten.
I found the other food items such as the chicken sandwiches and bowls to be underwhelming. The ratio of the different ingredients was disappointing and there was often more rice than chicken and coleslaw. The sandwiches were tasty, but I felt that there was nothing unique or special about them.
After trying Angry Chickz, I feel that the initial hype was justified, but that the daily number of customers will gradually decline. The food may start to taste repetitive as time goes on, and their average prices of $15 per order might deter people from coming. However, the food was not horrible, and I could understand going to Angry Chickz for a quick bite. My final rating is 7.5/10.
