The 2024-25 Season for girls’ basketball is starting to come to a close. The varsity and jv team had their respective wins and loses throughout the season with many seniors and underclassmen wishing for more game time together and creating more new memories. Let’s look at positive times with a Wolf Pack recap!
I talked to the girls varsity team and first asked junior, Elizabeth Akomah “What first started you’re love for basketball?” Akomah talks of how she had played for ten years prior. Although she does not remember what started her basketball career, she mentions that the friendships and bonds between her and her team are what kept her going. Akomah shares that her team has a pregame ritual of circling up before a game to feel the “vibes” of the court and opponents before running back to the benches and doing a clapping cheer. A fun memory she has from basketball is “blasting music while getting hype with the team in the locker room before games.” Akomah wants to shout out her seniors: Athena, Hannah, Jessie, and Karla with the message, “I’m going to miss you guys so much.”
Later, I had a chance to interview with sophmore, Arianne Quimbao, about her time on the girls jv basketball team. After first asking what jumpstarted her basketball career, she responded, “My family told me to pick a sport, and I wanted to carry on with what my brothers did because they played basketball in highschool.” Quimbao’s team ritual before games in to first do a group prayer and then the Wolf Pack chant. “We say, “Pack on me, Pack on three, One, Two, Three Pack.”” Quimbao then shared a fun memory between a teammate and her. “ My favorite moment was when I scored in a game against Dublin High and my teammate Alyssa cheered. I also liked getting put up to varsity to play that game, and discovering a music festival right after that.” The last thing Quimbao wanted to do was say a message for her senior’s and coaches; “ I will miss all four of the seniors so much, Jessie, Karla, Hannah, and Athena and I thank them for their support over the years, I also thank my coaches, Sal and Don and I’ll miss them.”
With varsity’s senior night being February 11th, that wraps up the 2024-25 season. Let’s wish the graduating seniors a bright future, making sure to never forget their Wolf Pack.
