Halfway through their 2025 season, softball celebrates strong and supportive JV, Varsity, and Frosh teams. This year was the first time we had a freshman team, and softball has been doing well with it. I was given the chance to talk junior Ximena Soto, captain of JV team, about their experience this season and their future goals. She explains how the teams have been learning more about the game and were able to make plays, as she puts it, “We didn’t think could be made.”
Senior Jesse Davis also brings to attention the quality of how the players work together. “We got way better at communicating, had each other’s backs, and kept the energy up eve when things got tough.”
To enhance their performance in games, Davis says something to work is staying consistent with their energy and focus. “We’ve got the potential; we just need to bring it every time.”
Freshman Alegra Leal believes, “We need to work on our communication skills and helping our teammates.” Soto also brings this up, communication being a big part of the team’s success and something to be honed to help achieve their goals this year. Soto hopes that softball can win more games for the end of their season, and you can help support them with this too! You can find their next game at West High’s softball Instagram is @merrill.f.westhigh_softball and we hope to find you there!
