This year, many seniors will be receiving a seal for their contributions through the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) club. These will be placed on their graduation diplomas. To get one, you must have participated in the club every semester in high school (including freshman year) and earned at least six points out of nine to qualify for the semester. Points could be earned through attending meetings and participating in community events.
Club officer Tanya Singh is one of the few seniors who will be receiving a seal this year. Tanya initially joined CSF because she wanted to engage in community service and meet with people who liked doing it too. When asked if it was hard to earn the seal, she answered, “I wouldn’t say it’s hard because you have opportunities to earn points every semester.” Despite this, Tanya still feels rewarded for getting one. “I feel that it’s something that most other clubs don’t do, so it’s really cool to have something else on your diploma.” She advises all incoming freshmen to check the announcements for when they can apply for CSF and maintain good grades to enter and stay in the club.
Another senior who will be receiving a seal is FFA member Yvette Lozano. When asked whether it was difficult to achieve one or not, she replied, “I would say it’s not that hard, but you have to put a lot of effort into [CSF] and be dedicated to the club.” Just like Tanya, Yvette feels rewarded because it is hard to qualify for CSF in the first place and there is a lot of dedication required, too. When asked to give advice for freshmen, she said, “Try your hardest. Go to every meeting because those are easy points and obviously try to maintain [good] grades so you could always qualify.”
Getting a CSF seal is something to aim for if you want to head to a university or college. Participating in CSF gives you community service hours and shows that you keep your grades up, things colleges and universities appreciate when giving out scholarships. If you’re interested in joining the club, you can apply for the club at the start of the year if you are a sophomore, junior or senior.
