This year the back to school rally was on Friday, August 29th. Most of our rallies set a good tone for whatever event is near said rally. In this case, the beginning of the school year. Starting something new can be scary, especially for the freshmen here at West. But maybe the rally can help them grasp our spirit as the Wolfpack.
I talked to vice president of Black Student Union, Ava Bullock about the back to school rally. I was interested to know if they were performing at the rally. She said “We (clubs as a whole) are all gearing up for the homecoming rally later this year. So, most of the time clubs don’t really participate in the back to school rally.”
However, we got very great performances this year.
Which does make a lot of sense because club rush week was not too long ago so all the people who signed up for clubs don’t have enough time to prepare routines or skits for the rally. However, I think this is a really good way to introduce admin staff and leadership. Since leadership plays a big role in how rallies run so well, it can be beneficial for students to see the works of it.
I asked Principal Gary Henderson what his ultimate goal was for this rally. He said, “To get students pumped up!” As mentioned before, our school does not lack spirit! So, I think that this goal can be accomplished. Beyond that, it’s a fun way to start the weekend and pump students up for the first home football game of the season!
Additionally, junior Sandra Park says, “It’s a nice switch up from the everyday routine that students get tired of.” Then I asked her what the goal was for this rally. She said, “I think one of the biggest things is to not change the way our rallies are and just allowing students to feel involved.”
Let’s get pumped up for the beginning of school and enjoy the time we have left with students and staff!
