Activities are held nearly every month by clubs or by certain electives. They range from grand performances to simple gifts. Activities of any kind take a lot of time to organize and prepare for, so staff and club officers hope the students will enjoy the show. But how do the students really feel about these activities?
First, sophomore Vincent Cosme was asked about his thoughts on the events he has attended and the clubs he’s a part of. So far, he’s been to this year’s Senior Night and last year’s Packfest. Cosme said “[Activities here] have been really fun and [I got to] meet new people.” Cosme is also a member of Christian Club and says he enjoys his time there. However, he feels that some clubs have rooms that are located far away from each other. Cosme feels that “it just makes people not want to go.” He thinks a possible solution to this problem is to have more activities closer to the stage or cafeteria so that students can interact with the clubs more easily.
Junior Arham Rahim was also willing to give his thoughts on clubs. As a member of AVID Club, he says the first meeting he attended was “the best experience I’ve had.” Rahim wishes to join Mock Trial sometime in the future as well. However, he feels that clubs could promote themselves more. At the moment, Rahim feels that “the only time I hear about clubs is through [reminders] and [announcements].” “I want them to do advertising around the school [like] posters,” he said. “People would walk around and they would see them.”
A common sentiment shared by them is that some clubs don’t seem to project themselves to students outside of their already present members. Their room numbers are sometimes located in ‘hidden’ spots, and they don’t advertise their events which may garner some interest. Clubs might get an increase in attention or membership as more students discover what those clubs do and are interested in being a part of it if they promote themselves more. If you are interested in joining a club after rush week, reach out to that club’s officers.
