After weeks of hard work and as well as preparation, the boys’ varsity football team proved their efforts were worth it with a decisive win in the West vs. Weston Ranch. On Friday September 12, Varsity football got their first win of the season, the score being 35-7. The boys really kicked it off! Players in the game showed off hard work and teamwork leading up to the victory. Now, I have got the opportunity to interview two of the starting players, and as well as captains.
Senior Christian Balderrama set up the game. I first asked, “How did you feel about the first win of the season?” He replied with, “It was fun, despite the losses that happened it was fun actually getting a win, especially at home.” Then, “What’s one thing you still want to improve as a team?” He answered with, “As a team, our chemistry, I feel like we make a lot of mistakes, and we give up too easily. I think as a team we should get better each time.”
Next, I interviewed Senior Alekisio Vakauta as well on how the game went. I asked, “How did you feel about the first win of the season?” He responded with, “I felt pretty good, it was very exciting and all the hard work we put in the off season to lead up to that moment, we were very hungry for the win and were looking forward for more.” I again asked, “What’s one thing you still want to improve as a team?” He replied with, “As a team, I just want to see us improve with more effort cause these days have been a little off and considering that I’ve gotten injured its kind of taking the team down and were having more players who have been getting hurt.”
The victory not only made a promising start to the season but as well as highlights the team’s growth and preparation in the off-season. Let’s see in the future games if our West High boys’ varsity football team can kick off with more victorious wins!
