With all the negativity that comes with everyday life, don’t you wish there was something that tried to bring a smile to everyone’s day. Fortunately, on campus the club Project Smile’s purpose is just that. Between their positive messages and chalk drawings at campus and all their campaigns to spread positivity, this club has had a significant impact on campus. But who’s behind this great project? I got a chance to talk to some of the people that make this project possible.
First, I talked to the President of Project Smile, Junior Melanie Tapia. I asked her what some goals for Project Smile are this year she said “My goal is to reach our school’s community and even the Tracy community, and to just spread a lot of smiles this year, because I know that there are hard times throughout the high school experience.” Project Smile is a great idea that can be implemented into the everyday life of many communities. By being kind to one person you can bring more positivity into their life.
Then I spoke to a member of the club Sophomore Adelina Rosa, I asked, “if you had to recommend Project Smile to a friend what would you tell them about the club? She replied, “It’s really fun and I feel we do a lot of activities to spread positivity around campus, it is also a fun extracurricular” Project Smile offers many activities throughout the year that motivate students to keep a more positive campus.
I also asked Melanie what impact Project Smile has on campus and she mentioned, “A lot of kids look at the chalk and I was really happy when I saw that they had a smile on their face and it made me happy that it had an impact on some of the students.” On campus the goal is to spread positivity even in a stressful environment such as school. Even one of these chalk messages can make someone’s day brighter.
Project Smile is a great club if you are interested in bringing positivity and joy to the campus and other areas of the community. Both interviewees also mentioned how Project Smile can help you meet new people and create strong friendships. Project Smile is a fantastic opportunity to have a positive impact in our school’s community. To learn more about the club or future activities, visit their Instagram at @whsprojectsmile.
