With the new season starting up, the West High girls’ Varsity volleyball team is working very hard and having regular practice to ensure they’re ready for the challenges they will face as a team. Hours of conditioning and, team bonding to prepare their skills and build communication and trust within each other as a team. With many returning players and new players, it is always nice to see how strong they can work together to win. While watching these players prepare, I got the chance to talk to them about it.
When interviewing Junior Xienna Cardona-Renshaw about the team and her goals for this season and she says, “This season I hope to have more communication as a team and try to stay focused on and off the court and also be very supportive. “When asked about what she is looking forward to she replies, “Definitely senior night and our game against Kimball”. I questioned Xienna on what she does herself to prepare for a game and she says, “I tend to listen to music and talk to my friends to get the nerves away. “She also mentions that she is very excited for this season and that she believes the team is very strong this year.
Next athlete i interviewed was Junior Cyan Manalang. When asking about how she feels about this season, she replied, “I am very excited, and I am looking forward to our rivalry games.” Before games every athlete prepares differently so asking her how she prepares for a game, and she says “I always must stay hydrated and eat before a game and I tend to stretch a lot” Lastly when questioned on what she most excited for this season she mentioned “ I am most excited for our game against Tracy I am always preparing for our rivalry games.”
Now that more games are coming up, they are staying focused to have more wins this season. The season is just beginning, and the girls are not just building their skills, but also their communication and bond within each other.
