The West High boys’ varsity basketball team is getting ready for the season with preseason practices. The players are working on their skills, team chemistry, and overall focus to make sure they are ready when the games begin.
Sophomore Guard Addison Miles said the team is starting to come together. He also said, “Our chemistry is building better this year.”
Head Coach Parks also shared what the team needs to focus on before the season starts. “We need to get our grades up and start attending preseason practices to get ready for the season.” Parks said at the team meeting on Wednesday. He stressed that academics come first and that being a student athlete means handling both school and basketball responsibilities.
Practices so far have included conditioning, shooting drills, and working on defensive sets. Players are also spending time practicing with JV, which has helped bring the whole program together.
The teams’ goals for the year are to communicate better, play harder, and be ready to compete once the season tips off. With players and coaches locked in, West High varsity basketball is determined to make all the work in the preseason count.
In addition to on court work, players are also focusing on team bonding and leadership. Upperclassmen are mentoring younger players, helping them adjust to varsity level competition. Strength and conditioning sessions are being added to improve endurance, speed, and agility. The coaching staff has also emphasized the importance of film review, studying opponents, and learning from past games. Sophomore guard Addison Miles said, “Since our competition is bigger than us, we have to adapt and step up every practice.” Fans and families are excited to see the Wolf Pack in action this year, as the team looks to grow both individually and collectively. With hard work, dedication, and support from the school community, the Wolf Pack hopes to have a successful and memorable season ahead.
