So many people look forward to prom. It is the end of high school. You made it all four years. Now, you get celebrate it with prom! Typically, prom is the month before the end of school. This is what other schools do, so why is West High’s prom in March rather than in April? How do the seniors attending prom feel about its timing?
To answer both questions, I first spoke to senior and ASB President Noah Watkins. The date of prom is chosen based off the dates the venue has available, according to Watkins. He added that they also have to work around the school calendar, working around breaks and big events. I then asked, “How do you feel about prom being in March?” He said, “…I would prefer it to be in April to give students more time to get everything ready.” He added that it being in April would give leadership more time to promote prom. Watkins finished by saying with being a senior, no matter when prom is, he would go since it is his last year of high school.
Other seniors have their own opinions on the matter, though, such as Jasmyn Strickland. I started by asking her, “What do you think about prom being in March?” Strickland answered, “I wish it was in April just so it would be a little closer to graduation.” She then added that it would also be warmer since it will be a little cold on the day of prom. I followed up by asking, “Does prom being so soon almost make you second guess going?” and she said, “A little bit because I felt like I had less time to pick out my dress.”
