The Project Smile Club is a club offered at West High that focuses on keeping everyone in a good mood for their whole high school experience. They try to help the community to get involved and to get noticed even when you don’t want to be noticed. If u want to slowly expose yourself to more opportunities at West High and help u be more open towards others.
I interviewed the president of the club Junior Melanie Tapia and asked her some questions on Project Smile to get a deeper view of the club for people who may be unfamiliar with the club. I asked Tapia what her proudest moments were and replied with “I helped the special needs kids during Packfest because many of the kids didn’t have tickets and we invited them all to our photobooth and in the moment I felt very happy to help them have a good time because high school can be especially hard for them.”
I then asked Tapia what her biggest goal for project smile was and whether they were able to achieve it. Tapia responded with “We had a plan to make a bench for students outside of the school for the students who were sitting on the cement, and we had asked the administration and we were unfortunately denied. It did fail however it doesn’t stop me from trying again next year to be able to give back to the community.”
I asked Tapia if she got to start over this year what would she do differently being the club’s president. She responded with “I would like to be a lot more planned and organized because to have something eye catching is the best kind of exposure to a club and I would like to be a bit more planned to have more for the community because you can’t do all these things overnight.”
After learning about Project smile from someone who knows nothing about it at first, it’s safe to say this club has a wonderful community of people who all they want is to make everyone smile and have an a good experience in high school because everyone knows high school can be this big boulder you have to get over and having a good friendly community to surround yourself in is something that can help anyone having a hard time.
