It’s October, the days are chillier and go by faster. But it also marks the opening of soccer tryouts. Students are eager to earn a spot on the team and leave it out on the field. Students have the opportunity to show what they are worth bringing to the table. These tryouts are not just tryouts to some of these kids, it is an opportunity to represent their school, build relationships with teammates and prove their dedication to the sport they love.
Senior Gavin Atwal who has played all four years for the West soccer team said “I’m looking forward to playing and making the most out of it for my senior year” when asked what he was looking forward for the upcoming season. I got the opportunity to play with Atwal in the soccer team and Atwal is an extraordinary teammate who pushes you to strive forward and be the best. Atwal is nothing but positive vibes and will help the team in any way he can. Another question I asked Atwal was what his favorite part was about being on the team. He replied with, “What my favorite part of being on the team is the experience I get to make and the bus rides when we have away games.”
Another player I got to Interview was senior Brandon Arambula. Arambula was asked what made him start playing soccer? “Watching soccer as a little kid made me fall in love with the sport.” I also got the chance to play with Arambula and Arambula will contribute to the team and will never give up until he hears the final whistle. I asked him, what his personal goals were for this season, and he said, “I would like to contribute to more goal scoring opportunities with the team but I would also like to be the best version of myself this season.”
This year will be a little more challenging for the players because last year’s seniors graduated and left the team into rebuilding mode. But rebuilding the team is no problem for this program who makes kids great and more talented. This year’s goal is to have a winning record and make playoffs again for the third time in the last 4 years. If you are Interested in trying out for the Soccer team conditioning will start Monday October 20th at 6:45. Tryouts will start on the first week of November at the stadium, so get ready and show what you got.
