Eric Dane was an aspiring actor who was featured on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, and Euphoria. Eric Dane publicly announced his diagnoses of ALS in April 2025. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that progressively destroys nerve cells controlling muscles, and there is currently no cure. Dane’s physical decline was rapid; he lost the use of his right arm within months and was using a wheelchair by late 2025. Dane built a career defined by charisma, depth and emotional range. News of his passing devastated many who admired both his talent and strength.
During the final year of his life, Dane became a vocal advocate for ALS awareness and research. He spoke publicly about his condition and the need for better health insurance coverage for patients, making appearances at events and working with organizations. In September 2025, he was named Advocate of the Year by the ALS Network for his work in bringing attention to the disease.
Though his health was declining, Dane continued working when possible, Including filming season 3 of the HBO original show Euphoria. Shortly before his death, he recorded an extended interview for Netflix’s Famous Last Words, where he shared reflections on life and messages for his two teen daughters. After his death, Grey’s Anatomy honored him with a tribute montage of his role as Mark Sloan, and friends and supporters raised funds to his family with future needs.
