Released April 3rd, 2026, The Drama is a film that certainly lives up to its name. Directed by Kristoffer Borgli and starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, The Drama was much anticipated, with exciting trailers that didn’t give too much insight on the plot. Viewers like me who went to see it in theaters finally found out the secrets between the couple and the surprising twist at their wedding.
The movie opens with Emma Harwood and Charlie Thompson, a seemingly happy, soon-to-be-married couple. After going to a dinner testing with their friends, the four take turns revealing the worst thing they’ve ever done. After Emma reveals her secret, the energy shifts and her three companions have varying levels of disturbance. There is a big argument and the friends storm out. In an attempt to keep from spoiling, I won’t reveal what she said, but in my opinion her secret wasn’t strong enough to drive the plot of the movie and yet that’s what it did.
Charlie becomes fixated on this new information and Emma is anxious that he will leave her over it. The movie has a very tense energy that is only exemplified by the fact that the wedding is supposed to take place that weekend. We are shown flashbacks from Emma’s childhood as she tries to explain her secret and Charlie’s anxiety only grows as the weekend approaches, causing him to commit an unforgivable act.
Finally, the wedding occurs and it’s the epitome of drama. It starts out as a lovely event but very quickly the alcohol takes its toll and almost immediately, the wedding falls apart in the most ridiculous ways possible. The film felt a bit more like a comedy than a drama at this point with Emma storming out in her wedding dress and Charlie’s face bruised. The movie ends with the couple reunited in their favorite diner as they remake their first conversation.
Overall, the movie was interesting and a light laugh. However, the trailers did such a good job at not revealing too many details that I was disappointed to find out the plot. It felt like
the director was trying to make the film deep and thought-provoking but missed the mark by choosing a subject that isn’t applicable to all people. The acting was amazing and the storyline had so much potential and I hope others enjoyed the movie more than I did.
