A near death experience is often a life-altering event that occur when a person comes close to dying. These Experiences can happen in many situations, such as accidents, medical emergencies, or moments of physical danger. While each person’s experience is different, these can cause a strong emotional reaction of fear, confusion, or even a sense of calm. What makes near death experiences especially significant is not just the moment itself, but how they can shape a person’s though and views long after the event has passed
In the long-term, near-death experiences can leave both positive and negative effects. Some people develop anxiety, phobias, or a larger sense of awareness of danger, especially if the event was sudden or traumatic. Others may gain a stronger appreciation for life, becoming more reflective or motivated to change their habits. Memory can also affect how you look back at these experiences, some people can remember very vividly of the events and others who may only retain fragments of what happened
For example, I had my own experience when I was younger that reflects how these events can affect someone over time. I once went to the lake with my family and nearly drowned. I remember feeling a strong sense of fear in the moment, like I didn’t have control and didn’t know what would happen next. Afterward, I feared the water for a while. I avoided being in situations with deep water, showing how a near death experience can create lasting fear
However, as time passed, that fear gradually faded. Since I was young my memory became less clear, and I eventually stopped thinking about it as much. Now, it feels like a distant memory I can only learn from. This shows another side of a near-death experiences, some can make an immediate impact, their long-term effects can change especially depending on age, memory and personal growth.
