At this year’s Packfest, two new policies took effect that affected the way food and drinks were distributed. Food is no longer allowed to be made on campus and must be prepared beforehand. Clubs can sell things for fundraising but must provide a free activity for those who cannot pay. These policies are expected to carry on to next year’s Packfest as well.
Principal Mr. Henderson explains that, “We were told you can’t have [vendors] prepare food during the day on campus. So, we told the food vendors that if they brought [the food] already prepared, that would work.” He also stated that this was a policy put into effect by the district. Because of this, food trucks were not allowed on campus this year.
An unfortunate side-effect of this policy was the burrito and chicken stands running out of food and having to close down early. “Next time, we’ll have them prepare [more]… what learned is that maybe next they should bring more,” Henderson states. “If they were preparing on site, they could just make more.”
On the club fundraising policy, the administration wanted to make sure all students got something even if they couldn’t get tickets. Henderson explains “If you couldn’t afford to go buy something at every booth, booths could give stuff away.”
