Tracy is known for its middle land location being between the Bay Area and the Central Valley. It is a small town growing more each day. It allows residents to commute to their jobs, offers agriculture history, the “Tank Town” water tower, and downtown Tracy where people can walk and see all the community arts and events. Even though Tracy has a lot to offer, well at least that’s what it seems, most Tracy residents don’t feel that way. Residents call Tracy “boring” and “nothing to do” while others love this city. Let’s take it a look on how our interviewees feel about Tracy.
I interviewed senior Diego Cadena to see his opinion on Tracy. I asked Cadena, what do you want to see in Tracy, Cadena replied with “I would like to see a Chick-Fil-A in Tracy since I love Chick-Fil-A.” A Chick-Fil-A would be amazing which can bring more people together and try new things and not their typical take-out spot. Another question I got to ask Diego was, would he mind a sports team here if so what sport? Cadena replied with, “I would like to see a pro soccer team play here in Tracy.” A sports team would be a great idea which can bring the whole community together to watch their team play.
Some issues Tracy has would be the mall. The mall has not been renovated for a couple of years. As time goes on, more stores go out of business there. Residents would go to the mall to shop, or teenagers would go to have a good time now, the mall is dead with less than 20% of Tracy residents still shopping in there. Another major issue would be heavy traffic. As months and years pass by, more people move to Tracy for cheap housing. With that said, more houses and apartments are being built for more people moving in, dedicating Tracy to housing instead of more attractions or stores.
I asked senior Sergio Munguia how do you see Tracy in the next 10 years? Munguia answered with, “I see Tracy either in two ways, it could be a fun town that people come to and actually have things to do or it will be more people living here to be closer to their jobs in the bay.” We all deal with afternoon traffic from workers trying to get home from their jobs, but with more homes available it will only get worse. I asked Munguia what he would want to see more of in Tracy? Munguia replied with, “I would like to see more activities such as a better mall, more food spots, better parks, and more date spots.”
Tracy might not be the biggest or most known city to a lot of people, but for many residents this place means a lot. From all the way back to agriculture times, to all the community events and arts that bring people together, Tracy is a small little town in the 209 that knows how to bring joy to people. It may not have a lot of famous things to bring people together, but hopefully as time goes on more attractions will be built. Tracy is growing rapidly and sooner or later this city will have an amazing future.
