Finals are quickly approaching this year, and we all want to be successful in our scores. I interviewed some people here on campus to see the best way of becoming successful.
The first thing I asked AP English teacher Mrs. Espinoza is what she believes the biggest struggle is during finals and she said, “Honestly I think that students having to sit that long is difficult.” Which I understand from a student point of view, but also, I can’t imagine how difficult it is for teachers when students start to get restless and start losing focus. Mrs. Espinoza said her biggest piece of advice is to make sure you eat breakfast to fuel your mind and get plenty of sleep. Take care of yourself so your mind works a little better.
Then, Mrs. Espinoza said one mistake she commonly sees from students is them thinking midterms can fix your grade. She said that a lot of students are unhappy with their grade and try to make it up during midterms.
Next, I talked to senior Baktash Azizi, who gave some excellent tips. The first thing he advised was using music without lyrics. A study conducted at University of Texas concludes that classical music can help you retain knowledge.
Then, Azizi says that he chews different flavors of gum for each subject or topic he is studying for, so that on the day of finals that specific flavor can help him recall. He also recommends using a study wheel online. Put a question into each segment and if you get the answer correct take it off the wheel. And continue until everything is answered correctly.
Then finally, the last piece of advice given is to make sure you breathe. As stressful as midterms can be, we always survive and there are tools and people to help you wherever you need it. Good luck this year, Wolfpack!
