This next school season is becoming a reality a lot quicker than many of us thought it would. With only a handful of weeks left of this school year, clubs are now lining up the new incoming officers, while also saying a well-deserved goodbye to the students who served.
The first club I talked to was Choral Leadership Academy or CLA. I talked to the current secretary, sophomore Valentino Orosco. I asked what changes he’s looking forward to next year. He answered with “I look forward to better communication and stronger work ethic among the officers and in the club itself too.” Then he said “One of our biggest achievements this year is just being able to reach out to those who weren’t in choir. We love to involve people with passion.”
I also asked president of CLA Junior Lucy Villanueva what she thought the biggest accomplishment was this year. She said, “I think our club’s biggest achievement is going on our New York trip where we get to perform at Carnegie Hall.”
Then I talked to Christian club incoming president sophomore Kalani Svensson Ching. I first asked her what she plans to do within the club to improve it. She answered, “As President I want to make others feel as welcomed and seen as I was. I want to be able to create a space where God and other people feel welcomed into. I want everyone to feel included and not out of place, so I want to implement activities and events that people can create bonds and deeper Christ centered friendships. I would also like to have more community service opportunities to get the club more active and to serve others as we are called to do.”
Ching also mentioned how bittersweet it is to see the seniors leave. Sad we no longer get to see them so frequently but so special that we had good time with them.
Then I asked her how she felt about taking over. She answered with, “Taking over as co-pres with Malyna [Torres Melton] is honestly a little scary but so exciting. I think back to when I was just a freshman, new in faith and wanting a community. Then I was introduced to Christian Club and was so welcomed by previous officers, and I grew in such awe of the club and community that I knew I wanted to be a part of. Going from a consistent member being led, to a president leading others, is such a big step but an exciting one and such a blessing I’m forever grateful for!”
With many other clubs welcoming new officers, I’m excited to see the improvements here on campus. As well as the growth of morals.
