“Snow lands on top.” A famous quote in the movie “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of The Songbirds and Snakes”. This new film is directed by Francis Lawrence with a setting that took place sixty-four years before the events of the first novel. Watching this movie at the West Valley mall Cinemax movie theater changed my whole perspective about the Hunger Games series. This new addition to the film collection is nothing like the others, but ties in perfectly with the stories.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of The Songbirds and Snakes pleasantly surprised me. The trailer surely did not do the movie justice. I was put through an emotional rollercoaster while watching the three chapters of the movie. The movie is full of heartbreak and breakthrough as well as extreme betrayal. It also shows the backstories of many famous moments in the original Hunger Games movies such as The Hanging Tree song. This led to speculation such as the many theories Hunger Games fans have come up with after the release of this film.
Some Hunger Games fans suspect that Katniss Everdeen, in the original movies, may be related to Lucy Gray Baird, first district 12 victor, because of their similar behaviors and “easter eggs” in the movie. Fans also think that Lucy Gray Baird could be the mother of President Coin, a villain in the Mockingjay series. Only a good movie can cause fans to make crazy theories such as these. As a fan of The Hunger Games series, this prequel was an incredible addition to the film collection.
