What’s better? Did 2000’s TV pave the path for an enhanced viewing experience? Is 2020’s TV better than 2000’s? Let’s be honest, 2000’s TV was sometimes unhinged but entertaining and a huge milestone in the TV industry. So how does 2020’s TV compare?
2020’s TV in the viewpoint of general opinions, isn’t that great of a TV decade. An abundance of people now don’t have the attention span to sit and watch something that doesn’t immediately pique their interest. Senior Mary Gaarde explains that the 2000’s era was more of a spoken audience engagement compared to modern era TV.
A clearly loved show of the early 2000’s, Gilmore Girls was a huge hit when it came out in October of 2000, and is still a big hit today with over five million viewers per episode. In 2021 a show by the title of Ginny and Georgia was released. These two shows were often brought up side by side during interviews due to the iconic mother daughter roles in the two shows. Ginny and Georgia was described as funny, cringy, and dramatic. Gilmore Gilrs was described as interesting, upsetting, and cool. These two shows have different plots but in some ways are pretty similar.
Recently, Mean Girls the Musical came out to theaters. Everyone knows the hype behind the original Mean Girls. That movie was funny and iconic. Junior Sariah Brinkley said that the musical was goofy. She mentioned that looking for a movie that had every same joke and every same line was useless and at that point just watch the original movie. She noted that she doesn’t expect this movie to be a “timeless” or “iconic” movie like the 2000’s one but that it was still an enjoyable experience. She said the musical was lighthearted and she recommends it to people who won’t build up high expectations.
So which TV decade has been better? Well, I think both eras have had their ups and downs, and everyone has their own opinion. This all comes down to what kind of person you are. Do you prefer 2000/s or 2020’s?
