The new romantic drama “Regretting You” has arrived in theaters. This movie was based on a Colleen Hoover Novel. The plot was about an aunt and father of the main character, Clara Grant, tragically passing away in a car accident. Clara had to navigate her grief, and it became extremely hard to do with the choices her mom, Morgan, was making. Much to Morgan’s credit, her husband and sister just died, and she was also grieving.
This movie had its ups and downs, but I think the movie had amazing potential. The actions were predictable, but it was a new idea and something I haven’t seen before. It was good to have something not reused. If this movie wasn’t based on a novel, I think the writing would have been better and would have elevated the overall feel of the movie. The actors are good actors, but they can only do so much with the script given to them.
I have seen all the actors participate in other roles in other movies and can say without a doubt this wasn’t their best performance. However, with what they were given and the dialogue of the book, they did what I believe was their best.
I would like to add that the movie conveyed grief and betrayal extremely well. I think it ran through emotions well, but I don’t think that makes up for the lack of maturity in writing.
It made you laugh. It makes you feel connected to the characters. It made you cringe. It’s a basic drama romance.
