April fool’s is the Day where everyone can let their inner prankster out. Although it is commonly known that April Fool’s falls on April 1st, the actual backstory of this holiday is not as known compared to Valentine’s Day or Christmas. So, we will learn about the origins of this day.
There are many discussions on the origins of Easter, however the most popular is that the custom comes from France during the time of Charles IX in August of 1564. Another was that it could be related to the equinox that occurs on March 20 or 21st as people were “fooled” by the sudden weather changes.
Although the origins of April Fools are all different, the tradition behind this day stays the same no matter where you are in the world. So, have a good April fool!
Fun Fact: In France, the person pranked is called poisson d’avril or “little fish” referring to a person who has a paper fish secretly placed on them as a prank.
